Check Out Our Plans for 2008! We are proud to introduce our new Keep Truckee Cool campaign slogan! it's more than just a bumper sticker! We will produce a free "Renewable Energy Resource Guide" to distribute within the community. This will be a practical, compact, A-Z handbook focused on demystifying climate change and carbon footprints, and containing everything local citizens need to assess, purchase and install renewable energy systems for their homes.
As part of the research and production of the guide, we will do the numbers on seriously reducing Truckee's carbon footprint. What if 1,000 homes in Truckee were outfitted with Photovoltaic systems? How much would it cost? How much would it save? How many homes could qualify for assistance? We will launch a major fundraising campaign with the release of the guide to create a funding pool of local renewable energy credits to be used to offset costs not covered by local rebates and state and federal tax credits. We will create 1,000 solar rooftops in Truckee by 2013!
TCAN is taking on the challenge of making Tahoe Truckee Earth Day 2008 (April 26th) the first large scale carbon neutral event in the region.
We will continue our collaboration with other organizations and agencies within the community to provide the best possible information about carbon reduction and implement programs to Keep Truckee Cool. We will make truckeecan.com the definitive local resource for climate change information, new programs, events, opportunities for volunteerism and more. We will obtain our 501 (c) 3 non profit status. TCAN is coordinating the 5th Annual Truckee Day (June 7th) event, which will include a Green Living Expo, featuring local non profits, agencies and businesses specializing in sustainable practices.
